The following three decades saw gradual expansion, and the company has recently opened its largest outlet in Maplewood, Minnesota. It is also the first premises wholly owned by Buck's, as the rest of the outlets are leased. The new establishment is 13,000 square feet, of which 10,000 square feet has been devoted to housing the showroom. The added space is intended to increase customer comfort while purchasing at the new store. "The new Maplewood store is a culmination of extensive research and feedback," states Randy Buck, executive vice-president. "It fulfills our desire to meet the needs of our growing customer base from the north east suburbs. "Plus, with the addition of the new Dayton's, Home Depot and recent road improvements to White Bear Avenue it made our decision an easy one-this is where we want to be." Buck's remains a family-run concern, with ownership equally divided between Randy, Richard, Ramon and Roger Buck. Each shares the title of president on a rotating basis. Roger Buck, director of marketing promotions, said of the Maplewood premises: "When you walk into the larger store you will see more of what styles and brands are available on the showroom floor versus a catalog. "Because there are so many different sizes, shapes and colored stains available today we wanted to give our customers every opportunity to see what is available." He added: "We will feature popular brands such as Khoury, Creations, College, Aspen, Winners and Mastercraft. Plus a new selection of upholstered furniture and accessories by Alan White." The Maplewood store is the first new site to be opened since 1989, and is a sign that Buck's Unpainted Furniture is not content to rest on its laurels. The 1980s was the most prolific decade for the company, opening a total of three new stores, purchasing the warehouse and general offices building in Bloomington and winning acclaim as the National Unfinished Furniture Retailer of the Year.
